As part of our second birthday celebrations this month, we're introducing the East London Cares team and finding out a bit more about what brought each of us to The Cares Family. Priyanka is coordinates our Social Club programme and joined the team in July.
What brought you to East London Cares?
East London Cares looked like a welcoming, kind and fun space to be part of – I knew that I had to get involved with them and learn more. I have always seen the importance of community support and having a chance to learn, laugh and experience new things together so East London Cares simply drew me in!
What do you enjoy most about your role here?
I enjoy learning about all the hidden talents of our neighbours. I have been here for two months and have already found professional singers, guitarists, water-paint artists, up-cyclers and more. Our community network is filled with lovely younger and older neighbours who can teach and inspire us all, and I love meeting them and creating a space for everyone to share and shine.
Where’s your favourite east London spot and why?
I love the vegetarian Indian restaurant, Vijay’s Chawalla on Green St. The unassuming look, the misplaced fishtank, and the delicious traditional food – all the reasons I love this spot, and would recommend you try!
What tips would you give to someone wanting to get involved with our programmes?
My top tip would be take a chance! Give us a call and have a chat with our team to see what can works for you, there's no pressure or obligation at all. If you're joining your first social club, I will do the best I can to make sure you feel welcomed and meet some regular neighbours. Go on, give it a go.
Describe the East London Cares community in three words…
Brave, gentle & present.
What’s your birthday wish for East London Cares?
I wish for more neighbours in east London, younger and older, to experience the sense of community and belonging that the East London Cares network can bring.
If you'd like to join or host a Social Club, or you have an idea for a great activity, give Priyanka a call on 020 7118 4949 option 1 or email [email protected].
