Meet the team: Sinead

As part of our second birthday celebrations this month, we're introducing the East London Cares team and finding out a bit more about what brought each of us to The Cares Family. Sinead joined the team in September and coordinates our Love Your Neighbour programme.

What brought you to East London Cares?
I’ve always been captivated by east London’s creativity, diversity and history. So when the opportunity came up to work for East London Cares, having previously worked for our sibling organisations at North and South, I couldn’t miss it! With East being the youngest of the charities, the chance to be involved in the growth and development of the Love your Neighbour programme was very exciting and I had to be a part of it! Plus, I get to work in such a passionate and great team too.

What do you enjoy most about your role here?
Having previously been matched as a volunteer on the LYN programme back in Manchester with older neighbour, Audrey, I know first-hand how special and unique the friendships are.  I love helping to connect neighbours together to create new friendships, by meeting and chatting with them. I really enjoy hearing older neighbour’s stories, and about East London back in the day, whilst hearing from younger neighbours about why they want to be involved in the programme.

Where’s your favourite east London spot and why?
Grow in Hackney Wick. It has live music and food (two of my favourite things). So, with live music on the River lea, and very tasty middle-eastern inspired sustainable street food, I personally think it’s worth a visit!
What tips would you give to someone wanting to get involved with our programmes?

Don’t be afraid to ask the team as many questions as you want, we’re all here to answer them and help with any apprehensions.

Read all our amazing blogs on our website from staff and neighbours, it’s a great way to get an insight into our programmes.

Stalk our Insta and Facebook to see what we’re getting up too!

Just go for it! You’ll love speaking with the neighbours in our network, hearing their different stories and even learning new skills & knowledge - there’s so much to gain from one another.

Describe the East London Cares community in three words…
Vibrant, kind and fun.

What’s your birthday wish for East London Cares?
To keep growing and bringing more older and younger neighbours together, creating special friendships and working with other wonderful community partners in our network to help spread the word about East London Cares!

If you're interested in becoming a Love Your Neighbour match, know someone over 65 who would like some company and friendship, or would like to know more about the programme, give Sinead a call on 020 7118 4949 option 2 or email [email protected].
