September is here bringing with it a change in season, reopened schools and universities, and maybe even a last minute heatwave! Even with all the changes of September, East London Cares are steadily continuing with our virtual and face-to-face social clubs.
Older and younger neighbours started the month with our Saturday shimmy dance workshop to get energised, before taking time out to reflect and rebalance at our Start your month right club. There’s also a few regular clubs coming up, including Seated yoga, Qigong, Wellbeing Hour and our Coffee and catch up club in Bethnal Green. Regular monthly clubs give everyone a chance to get to know each other better, as well as learning a new skill (like Qigong). It is never too late to join in as we host volunteer inductions every month, and welcome new older neighbours to the network every day.
Have you got a hobby or talent that you could share with your neighbours? Why not the next Skill share club – where younger or older neighbours share a skill they have. These clubs are really special to me because I love to learn about all the talents our neighbours have. I am also here to help run the club and support you as much as you need when sharing your skill, so there is nothing to fear. This month we have Sinead, our new Love Your Neighbour coordinator sharing her breathwork skills. And in October, older neighbour Bee will be sharing her art skills in a water painting workshop.
There are some special one-off clubs in September too, and later this month we’ll be welcoming Sam Roberts for a virtual tour of ghost signs in London. Ghost signs are the fading remains of hand-painted advertising, typically found on the side of buildings. If you look carefully, you’ll spot lots of these vintage ads around Hackney, and Sam will be joining east London neighbour to tell us more about them.
