  • Salary: £26,000;

East London Cares is a community network reducing loneliness and isolation amongst older and younger people alike; improving the confidence, belonging, purpose and power of all participants; and bringing people together to bridge the gaps across social, generational, digital, cultural and attitudinal divides. In these disconnecting times, we believe this work is more important than ever. So we're excited to be searching for a new Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator to join our dynamic team.

We're looking for someone with a proven track record in building and supporting relationships with individuals and community partners, with all the complications those relationships inevitably have. You will work well in a fast-paced environment, where teamwork is essential but where individual skills and distributed leadership are also required.

In this role, you will lead, plan and deliver East London Cares’ outreach in the community, facilitating and supporting older neighbours to be involved in our core activities. You'll work with our partners across the public, private and community sectors – receiving referrals from local authorities, health professionals and other sources, communicating with our team, and delivering outcomes for neighbours. You'll be out and about, speaking to people in local chemists, GP surgeries, supermarkets and on doorsteps to build trust and engage people in our programmes. And you'll lead retention and re-engagement efforts to ensure neighbours who aren’t regularly attending activities can do so.

Alongside this, you'll need to inspire and recruit young people to get involved, providing the best possible experience for people interested in sharing time with their older neighbours through our programmes. You'll oversee our volunteer sign-up processes, and lead monthly inductions for new participants to make our network as inclusive and welcoming as possible. You'll provide appropriate recognition and feedback to volunteers to cultivate their engagement, reward commitment and celebrate their efforts. And you'll host mobilisation events and socials to ensure the community of volunteers is engaged, well-connected and understands our work.

All of that requires communication skills, tenacity, confidence, creativity and determination. So you'll be an authentic communicator and storyteller – with the ability to build relationships with people from all backgrounds (through written as well as verbal communications). We’re looking for an organised multi-tasker, team-player and determined problem-solver; and someone with a good understanding of the culture and socio-economic challenges facing east London. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
