Love Your Neighbour is East London Cares' friendship matching scheme, bringing older and younger neighbours together to spend time one-to-one.
We introduce younger and older neighbours in Hackney and Tower Hamlets to share time, laughter, and joy together over the phone, in-person, or a mix of both. Neighbours generally catch up for about an hour once a week for company and conversation.
Sinead, our Love Your Neighbour Coordinator, aims to create genuine, long-lasting friendships through a flexible programme that allows organic friendship to flourish between older and younger neighbours. We match people based on their proximity to each other and, where we can, shared interests. Often, friends help each other discover new interests too! Where and how often matches meet is up to them, but Sinead is in regular contact with all of our matches to hear stories, and feedback, and to provide support along the way.
Each friendship on the programme is unique and different – some neighbours head out to explore east London’s coffee shops and museums, others enjoy staying in, watching their favourite films or TV shows together or just having a cup of tea and a chat.
