Our core team work day-to-day to devise and deliver the projects and partnerships that connect people and build communities in east London. Roxi Rustem - Head of Programmes

Roxi leads the team at East London Cares. She was born and raised in Tower Hamlets, and previously led the volunteer and outreach programme at North London Cares.

Craig Mahoney - Programme Coordinator (Social Clubs)

Craig is the Programme Coordinator for Social Clubs at East London Cares, designing clubs to bring together younger and older neighbours with fun activities across Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Craig has lived in east London for over twenty years, previously working as an artist and in galleries.

Sasha Khan - Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator

Sasha is the Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator at East London Cares, reaching older and younger neighbours and connecting them to our Social Clubs, Love Your Neighbour programme and Winter Wellbeing project. Previously Sasha has worked at Age UK and Coram, and volunteered at our sibling charity North London Cares.

Martha Lacy Scott - Programme Coordinator (Love Your Neighbour)

Martha coordinates our Love Your Neighbour programme, supporting the growth of one-to-one friendships between younger and older neighbours in Tower Hamlets and Hackney. Martha previously supported outreach at North London Cares, and before that worked abroad as an English Language Assistant.

Rob Paterson - Development Coordinator

Rob oversees fundraising for East London Cares, supporting our amazing community fundraisers, as well as running events and managing relationships with trusts and corporates. Rob was previously the development coordinator at Manchester Cares, and prior to that he managed relationships with schools and supporters for The Tutor Trust.

Charlie Jamieson - Director of Programmes

Charlie coordinates our programmatic strategy at East London Cares and at our sibling charities South London Cares, North London Cares, Manchester Cares and Liverpool Cares.  Previously, she managed our business partnerships at North and South London Cares and prior to that, led the Social Clubs programme at South London Cares.

Jane East - Managing Director

Jane supports the CEO in delivering on our strategy, liaising with the Board and managing the Directors. She oversees our operations across The Cares Family. Previously Jane worked for Christian Aid and Amnesty International, and practised as a family and childcare social worker.

Alex Smith - Founder/CEO, The Cares Family

Alex is CEO and founder of East London Cares, North London Cares, South London Cares, Manchester Cares and Liverpool Cares. He was formerly an aide to Ed Miliband and editor of one of the biggest political websites in the UK. He is a governor at Holloway School and was a volunteer in Camden during the 2012 Olympics. He has been awarded two UnLtd social enterprise awards for his work founding North London Cares in 2011 and South London Cares in 2014.
